Do I need a permit to scatter my loved one’s remains/cremains?
Do I need a permit to scatter my loved one’s remains/cremains?
In short, yes, a permit will always be provided from your crematorium, mortuary or funeral home with the cremains of your loved one. However, it’s important to inform the crematorium, funeral home, or mortuary of your plan as they may mention the next of kin’s home address on the permit. If your permit is from out of state or out of the United States, a new permit will need to be created. In cases where a permit doesn’t mention scattering at sea or cannot be found, we can create a permit for you. After the scattering or burial event,
we will file all necessary paperwork with the coordinates of the final resting spot with our county.
If you require further assistance with this process, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to help.
